New Campaign To Revoke the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympic Games |
| On July 13, 2001, the International Olympic Committee
voted to legitimize the Chinese government and its practice of human rights
violations, with a vote to give the 2008 Olympic Summer Games to Beijing.
At the press conference announcing the IOC's decision, the IOC Executive
Director, Francios Carrard, announced that the IOC was willing to "bet"
on the fact that China's human rights record would improve. It has not.
